The specific objectives were I. To identify common occupational injuries/ hazards in Fiduga flower farm II. To identify the occupational health and safety practices in Fiduga flower farm. III. To assess the management of occupational hazards in the organisation. The study was across sectional survey with both qualitative and quantitative data collected using a sample size of 196 respondents all employees of Fiduga flower farm. The major findings of the study were that only 14.8% of the respondents used protective gears always and commonest injuries were the allergies, pricks and cuts. And overall the workers were satisfied with the health services offered to the workers. The study therefore recommends that; I. The farm should ensure that replacing worn out protective wear takes the shortest time possible, because over one month is such a long period for a worker to go without any protective gear. This exposes workers to occupational health and hazards. II. Management should ensure that all workers receive pre-placement medical examination at the time of employment to avoid legal issues that may arise from the workers. III. The workers should clearly know the importance of occupational health and safety measures, and this will help them take the necessary precautions. This should be done through regular sensitization on health and safety issues at the work place. IV. Regular medical examinations should be carried out on workers who are especially exposed to chemicals to determine the chemical levels in their blood. The examinations are carried out but they seem to be irregular. This helps to avert health risks as a result of accumulation of chemicals in the blood system. V. The use of protective gears at all times should be enforced VI. Further studies should be done determine the effects of this exposures to the families of the workersenOccupational and industrial Hazards.Assessment of Occupational Health Hazards and Safety in Uganda:a case study of fiduga flower farm in Mpigi district.Thesis
