    Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices of Newly Diagnosed Type II Diabetes Mellitus Patients Attending the Diabetic Clinic at Mulago Hospital.

    Background The study on knowledge, attitudes and practices of newly diagnosed patients attending Diabetic clinic on Diabetes Mellitus type II was conducted in Mulago regional referral hospital covering 110 patients, its specific objectives were to determine the patients level of knowledge about Debates mellitus type II, their attitudes and practices on Diabetes Mellitus type II. Methods A descriptive cross sectional study design was used, and data from the 110 consecutively enrolled patients was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire, analysis was done using SPSS version 12. Results The patients were knowledgeable on about 50% content about Diabetes Mellitus type II, their attitudes and practices on this type of disease were mixed, i.e. the positive and negative and the bad and good respectively. Conclusion and Recommendations The patients level of knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus type II was wanting, their attitudes and practices were mixed. Consequently, the patients’ knowledge levels, where identified as low, should be sensitized. The same patients should be also sensitized on the negative attitude and the bad practices.
