    Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Namuwongo Community Towards the Mentally Ill.

    This study of knowledge, attitude and practices of Namuwongo community toward the mentally ill involves 150 participants who were purposively sample from the community. The major objectives was to determine the Knowledge, attitude and practices of Namuwongo community toward the mentally ill The study employed a descriptive cross-sectional study design using quantitative method. Data analysis was made by descriptive statistics. The study results reveal that majority of the participants don’t have appropriate knowledge about the causes and treatment of mental illness which affects their attitude towards the disease. The study concluded that the knowledge of Namuwongo community toward mentally illness is not satisfactorily good and they have negative attitude towards the mental illness. The participants believe psychiatric patients should take medicine throughout their life time. Practices towards mental illness are one that is not medically approved as majority of the respondents visit witch doctor for help. The study recommended health education to the community to provide appropriate information about causes and treatment of mental illness that will also help to change the attitudes about the disease.
