| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Although HIV prevalence in Uganda has reduced from over 30% in the early 1980s to 6.4% in 2006, many people still suffer from HIV and many more are still getting infected with the disease. Condom use is important in the prevention of HIV/AIDS and we therefore set out to establish this among a high risk group. Objective: The study aimed at determining the knowledge on correct condom use and consistency of use and related factors, among boda boda cyclists in Rubaga division, Kampala. Methodology: A cross sectional study was carried out in Rubaga division. Kampala district. Simple random sampling was used to select boda boda cyclists to participate in the study. A total of 381 men who met the inclusion criteria were interviewed using an interviewer administered questionnaire between September and October 2014. Results: From the study, condom use at last time of sexual intercourse was 41% with the single showing the highest level of condom usage 64%. 59% of respondents did not use condoms at last intercourse. Only 52% of the respondents showed correct knowledge on condom use while only 13% showed consistent use of condoms. Education level was a key association with these results as it was noted that respondents who had a secondary level background of education showed more knowledge, which of course suggests that education was a key determinant of correct and consistent use. | en_US |
