Abstract
Introduction:
The study was about the adoption of quality assurance model ISO 9001series at surgical department, Mulago national referral hospital, Uganda. Quality assurance model assesses the presence of system of administration and technical operations of particularly surgical department in MNRH. The study was guided by three specific objectives; To determine the human resource related factors that influence the adoption of the quality assurance model ISO 9001 series at surgical department, MNRH. To investigate the client related factors that influence the adoption of quality assurance model ISO 9001 series at surgical department, MNRH. To examine the external factors influencing the adoption of quality assurance ISO 9001 series at surgical department, MNRH.
Methodology:
Across section study was chosen, which is descriptive and observational and both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods were used to carry out the study on the population of 600 people where a sample size of 300 respondents were sampled out using Yamane (statistical formula).
Results:
The study findings indicated that some factors (top management commitment, staff attitude, and level of education, golden hour and resource availability) can influence the adoption of this quality assurance model ISO 9001 series. The study concluded that the adoption of quality assurance model, would improve on the quality of health care services and the safety administrators, staff of MNRH.
