Factors Influencing Household Latrine Utilization in Koch Goma Sub-County, Nwoya District.

Abstract

This study assessed the factors influencing household latrine utilization in Koch Goma Sub-county Nwoya District. Diarrheal diseases is the second reported cases in Koch Goma health center III, so there is need to increase latrine utilization even by children. The Specific objectives of the study were 1. To determine household latrine coverage in Koch Goma sub-county,Nwoya district. 2. To determine the prevalence of household latrine utilization in Koch Goma sub county, Nwoya District. 3. To determine individual factors influencing household latrine utilization in Koch Goma sub-county, Nwoya District. 4. To examine socio-economic factors influencing household latrine utilization in Koch Goma sub-county, Nwoya District. The study targeted 276 respondents who were got by purposive sampling and data was collected using structured questionnaires. The study found that 81.30% had latrines in their homes and 18.70% did not have latrines in their homes. According to findings 90% of the respondents use latrine and 10% of the respondents do not use latrine. The study recommended that the District Health department continue sensitizing the residents on importance of having and using latrines to prevent diarrheal related diseases.
